Celebration Rituals

Want a quick and easy way to recognise and motivate your team?

Introduce celebration rituals.

This beautiful taonga greenstone stone here is at the top of our local maunga (mountain) Mauao. The ritual is to connect with this stone when you get to the top.

One of the benefits of touching this stone is to signify - you made it!

I do this every time I get to the summit.

I'm sure it's a hangover from when I went to Scouts and we would always tap the trig when we got to the summit. It was even better when we did it together as a group ✋✋✋✋

This ritual invites climbers to pause, reflect and celebrate what has been achieved. Acknowledging the perseverance, the hurdles overcome, and the achievement of getting to the summit.

In organisations we can get busy facing the next challenge and often forget to pause and celebrate what the team has achieved.

That's where rituals can help.

These are tangible practices that can be implemented regularly to acknowledge the teams' achievements.

They don't have to be expensive. Some of the best ones are free.

Here are some actionable examples I've seen work well:

Ring the bell

High fives

Success jar

Team cheers or chant

Recognition wall

Gratitude circle

Desk Trophy or a symbolic object

Friday wins round-up
